About the Castle:
Designed and created by Charles W. Knight of Rome New York, who had a dairy farm on the grounds for 11 years. The Milk was sold locally and even shipped by railroad to New York City.
Charles W. Knight had a strange desire to build a barn. Not an ordinary barn, but on in the style of an old English Castle built of field stones.
Construction began in 1899, seven years later construction stopped, to this point the building was at 120 feet long by 42 feet wide. The cost was $140,000 and this was back in early 1900s. Needless to say he went bankrupt and the Barn was later sold and converted into a country club and later a night club, both failed.
In 1946 Fire clamed the building, destroying nearly everything but the stones. It stood this way until the 1970s when Dr. Robert Hugel purchased the land and started reconstruction. The Hugle family still owns this land, raised their four children here and call it home.
Used to Exhibit: Car Show. Craft Fair. Halloween Village, various events.
